Synopsis for The GRIT Kids Teach Grandpa Sid Sportsmanship
When five young athletes sit down with their Hall of Fame grandfather, they unleash a conversation that will shake every sports parent to their core. These “GRIT Kids” courageously expose the painful truth about how well-meaning parents are unknowingly destroying their children’s love for sports through sideline pressure, embarrassment, and stress. Through raw, honest dialogue with Grandpa Sid, a former professional basketball player, they reveal the devastating gap between today’s high-pressure youth sports culture and the joy-filled athletic experiences that once defined childhood competition. This isn’t another parenting manual filled with theories—it’s young voices teaching adults through real scenarios that mirror what’s happening in gyms and on fields across the nation right now. The GRIT Kids provide specific, actionable “instead of this, do this” strategies rooted in Growth, Resilience, Intentionality, and Tenacity that will immediately transform how you support your young athlete. Suppose you’ve ever wondered whether your sideline behavior is helping or hurting your child. In that case, this eye-opening narrative provides the missing link between your good intentions and the practical support your young athlete desperately needs to pursue their dreams with confidence, joy, and genuine family encouragement.

The foundational component of literacy. When most people hear the word literacy, they associate it with reading. Rightfully so, it is emphasized and rigidly taught. However, it is only one important piece of the literacy puzzle.
The definition of the ability to write has changed over the last 30 plus years. The computer and the keyboard has taken over the need for paper and pen/pencil. Most students in secondary education would struggle to sign their names to a document. Writing in any form is an essential tool needed to be a well functioning adult.
As important as listening is through all facets of our lives, very little time is spent on teaching the importance of good listening skills. Listening is very important for receiving information, building strong relationships, improving communication, bolstering confidence, increasing critical thinking skills, and the list goes on and on. The skill is is not given the time and attention needed for its development.
Growing up as a child in a “be quiet and listen“ society, speaking was reserved for those in adulthood. You very seldom practiced speaking until you are forced to talk as an adult. This was not the best model for building language, relationships, and confidence. Yet, speaking is not given it rightful place in the literacy puzzle.
One of the primary ways we receive information Is by research. Mainstream media, social, media, Ai Chatbot have changed the way we get information or misinformation. Research has become one of the dominate pieces of the literacy puzzle. We shouldn’t fear this helpful and powerful tool. There so many benefits to learning how to utilize the power of research.
This fun and inspiring story blends real-world skills with the magic of curiosity and determination. Using the Five Literacy Superpowers—speaking, talking, listening, writing, and researching—readers follow a group of relatable and creative kids as they tackle exciting challenges to start their businesses. From brainstorming big ideas to crafting business plans, practicing their sales pitch, and bouncing back after setbacks, every step is a lesson in leadership, teamwork, and grit.
This book teaches young readers how to think like entrepreneurs while building confidence and communication skills to serve them for a lifetime. Whether you dream of starting a lemonade stand, designing the next big app, or learning how to turn ideas into action, this book is your guide to leading with courage and creativity.
